Digital Language for Imo Youths

Digital language, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the esteemed political leader of yesteryears, once eloquently articulated the concept of life as a “continuum,” a phrase that sparked curiosity among the youth of his time, who eagerly goes into dictionaries in search of words to enrich their vocabulary.

Could his profound statement allude to the notion of life extending indefinitely into the future, uninterrupted by what some may term as interregnum? The pursuit of vocabulary was a passion among young men of that era, who relished acquiring and flaunting new words as a display of their linguistic prowess.

The term “sustainability” found its way into it lexicon, reflective of the evolving language of the times. While the United Nations now appropriates the concept through its Sustainable Development Goals, my personal association with the term revolves more around the development and implementation of projects, programs, or policies designed to withstand the challenges of a fragile environment.

Unlike in the realm of politics, where transitions often bring abrupt halts to progress, moments of interregnum disrupting the continuity of governance, recent developments in Imo State have sparked optimism. The SkillUpImo project, spearheaded by Governor Hope Uzodimma, stands as a testament to the commitment to sustainability, as it continues unabated despite transitions in leadership.

Governor Uzodimma’s strategic partnership with Meta Incorporated, formerly Facebook, to train 5000 tech graduates in digital marketing on Meta social platforms reflects a dedication to long-term impact. This partnership, facilitated by the enthusiastic support of former Commissioner of Digital Economy and E-Governance, Dr. Chimezie Amadi, exemplifies a commitment to sustaining impactful initiatives beyond political cycles.

The governor’s vision for Imo’s digital transformation, embodied in the Imo Digital Economy Agenda (IDEA) 2022 – 2026, underscores the importance of digital literacy and skills acquisition in preparing the youth for the demands of the 21st century economy. Leveraging the expertise of technocrats like Dr. Amadi, the state aims to empower 100,000 youths, women, and people living with disabilities with essential skills for the digital age.
