Kidney Disease: 15-year-old boy cries for help

by Tolulope Akinruli

Kidney disease, a condition where the kidneys are impaired and unable to adequately filter blood, poses a serious health challenge. Fifteen-year-old David Abiodun, currently battling kidney failure, has issued a plea for assistance from compassionate individuals and corporate entities to help sustain his life. David is undergoing treatment at Healing Stripes Hospital in Lagos and requires approximately N15 million for a kidney transplant.

According to his attending physician, David initially presented with generalized body swelling and excessive proteinuria, indicating nephrotic syndrome resistant to steroid treatment. His condition progressed to kidney failure about two years ago, leading to the initiation of dialysis one year ago. Despite his parents’ efforts to cover medical expenses by selling off their possessions, they still struggle due to financial constraints. David requires an average of ₦200,000 weekly for dialysis and adjunctive therapies to survive. However, his ultimate treatment goal is a kidney transplant, an option currently beyond their financial means, with an estimated cost of ₦15 million.
