The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has unveiled plans to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate statistical data on food prices.
Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, the Statistician General of the Federation, revealed this during the First Bi-annual Meeting of the National Consultative Committee of Statistics (NCCS) in Keffi, Nasarawa State. He announced that the initiative involves producing and weekly publishing crowd-sourced data on food prices using AI and crowdsourcing methods across six pilot states in Nigeria.
Adeniran emphasized that this new approach will complement traditional data collection and analysis methodologies to provide accurate data for government decision-making.
Engr. Abdullahi Sule, the Governor of Nasarawa State, highlighted Nigeria’s potential in big data and data science across various sectors, including finance, healthcare, and agriculture.
