The Arewa Concerned Citizens Forum (ACCF) has advocated for the creation of the Nigerian Military Endowment Fund.
The forum, in a statement signed by its co-founders, Alhaji Bello Usman and Dr Victor Bobai, in Kaduna on Tuesday, stated that the move was intended to reward military people for their selfless contribution to humanity.
According to the forum, the project would be intended to express gratitude for the sacrifices and contributions of the country’s armed members, as well as their unshakeable dedication to national security. The statement said that the Nigerian military has faced various problems in recent years, including insurgency, banditry, and other security threats.
It further stated that despite these problems, military people have continued to serve with dedication and bravery. “It is our belief that a more comprehensive approach to supporting our military personnel is necessary to ensure their well-being and enhance their effectiveness,” according to the statement.
According to the statement, if the endowment fund is established, it will provide a long-term funding mechanism for the Nigerian military’s social needs and overall well-being.
It further suggested that the fund will instill a sense of ownership and responsibility among stakeholders for the wellbeing of military troops. Regarding the benefits, the forum said that the fund would boost military morale while also improving the welfare and well-being of their families.
“The fund will also express gratitude for our military personnel’s efforts and services to national security and stability. “We urge Nigerian governors, members of the National Assembly, international corporations, financial institutions, and the aviation industry to generously contribute to the Nigeria Military Endowment Fund.
“Your contributions will considerably improve the lives of our service troops and their families. “The ACCF thinks that the Nigerian Military Endowment Fund will demonstrate our nation’s appreciation for the efforts and contributions of our military troops. “We urge all stakeholders to join us in this noble initiative and contribute generously to the endowment fund,” according to a statement.
The statement also encouraged affluent businesses, legislators, and public office holders to guarantee that the military, which was working tirelessly to keep Nigerians safe, received enough assistance.
It specifically referenced the ACCF National Coordinator, Bobai, as “urging Nigerians to encourage and boost troop morale by expressing gratitude for their sacrifices and service to the nation.”
It emphasised the importance of providing emotional support, as well as counselling and mental health facilities, to assist soldiers in coping with trauma.
The statement encouraged relevant stakeholders to contribute to military welfare funds, volunteer with military groups, lobby for enhanced military welfare, and support military activities.
“Nigerians should also encourage community participation, establish partnerships between the military and local populations to generate trust and cooperation, and instill patriotism.
“We should also offer vital resources like food, drink, shelter, and medical supplies to soldiers in the field. “Stay informed and educated on military operations and issues so that you can better support them.
“Remember, every small action counts, and collective support can make a significant difference in boosting the military’s efforts to achieve peace and development in Nigeria,” according to the statement.
It went on to say, “A nation’s strength is measured not only by its military might, but also by the support and morale of its people.” “Let us band together to support our courageous men and women in uniform, and boost their morale as they fight relentlessly to preserve and defend our beautiful country. “Join the ACCF (Arewa) in calling for support for our military – together, we can make a difference.”
