Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), reported an enormous financial loss from his Non-Governmental Organisation’s (NGO) account as a result of a hacking event.
On December 27, 2024, Otse said in a video posted to his Instagram account that hackers had taken over the NGO’s website and stolen almost ₦180 million.
Otse explained that ₦160 million was transferred to an unidentified account, leaving just ₦20 million left in the hacked account, which had previously held ₦180 million.
He said that one of the suspects had been apprehended in Jos, Plateau State after being tracked by law enforcement. The NGO’s app has been momentarily suspended for maintenance to stop additional breaches.
Launched in October 2024, the Martins Vincent Osei Initiative attracted a lot of attention after raising over ₦35 million in donations in a matter of hours. Notably, ₦100 million was donated to the cause by music producer Don Jazzy.
Online debates have been triggered by Otse’s disclosure, with some internet users voicing doubts about the circumstances of the crime. Otse has reassured fans that steps are being taken to rectify the problem and is still committed to regaining the stolen money despite the criticism.
