The event will take place on Wednesday at an aviation museum in Asheboro, North Carolina, marking his return to open-air campaign activities.
To ensure safety, heightened security measures have been implemented, including the installation of bulletproof glass around the podium where Trump will speak. U.S. media outlets have reported these precautions, citing campaign staff and security personnel.
The assassination attempt occurred during an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman fired at Trump from a rooftop, injuring him in the ear and killing one person in the crowd. Following the incident, the Secret Service advised Trump to avoid outdoor events, but he has been eager to resume them.
Since the shooting, Trump has held several indoor rallies but expressed a strong desire to return to outdoor settings. On July 31, he told supporters at an indoor rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, that he is committed to continuing outdoor rallies. He also assured his followers via social media that the Secret Service would significantly enhance security for such events.
While the Secret Service typically does not comment on specific security arrangements, reports suggest that Trump will speak from behind a protective glass barrier similar to that used in the presidential limousine. This precaution is designed to shield him from potential threats.
The rally in Asheboro is strategically timed to coincide with Day 3 of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where Kamala Harris is expected to be formally nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate. Trump’s event is seen as a counter-programming effort, with his running mate, Senator J.D. Vance, also scheduled to appear.
North Carolina, a key swing state in the upcoming November election, is likely to play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the race.
