Gearshift Africa, the organizer of the Nwamaka Okoye Literature Prize Competition, has officially announced the commencement of its call for entries from aspiring writers across Nigeria. The competition, themed ‘Coming of Age’, invites Nigerian writers of all backgrounds and levels of experience, starting from the age of 16, to participate.
Ifejuwuralo Maiyegun, Head of Communication at Gearshift Africa, highlighted that the competition features categories in both poetry and short stories, providing a platform for writers to explore various styles and narratives within the chosen theme.
Maiyegun emphasized that the Nwamaka Okoye Literature Prize aims to celebrate the diversity of literary expression and serve as a springboard for emerging writers to showcase their creativity and literary prowess, potentially leading to discovery.

Entries will undergo evaluation by a panel of esteemed writers and literary experts, with winners in each category receiving cash prizes of up to N500,000. The competition officially commenced on March 1, 2024, and will conclude on March 31.
