BUA Group stated that its 200,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery in Akwa Ibom State had not reached 90% completion. There was conjecture that the refinery had reached 90 percent completion over the weekend.

The company’s management responded in a statement: “While the refinery is not yet 90% complete, we are on schedule to meet our delivery timelines in partnership with our partners.

“This BUA Refinery & Petrochemicals project is a significant step towards increasing Nigeria’s refining capability and energy security. “Our other energy projects, including the development of a mini-LNG plant and many new hybrid power plants across the country to add capacity to our over 1,000MW of installed captive power generation capacity, are also moving quickly.

“The public is advised to verify any news through our official channels and platforms so as not to be misled by mischievous persons.” BUA Group also stated, “At BUA, we are committed to transparency and excellence.”

As we have done with over 12 of our completed big industrial projects worth more than $3.5 billion over the last ten years, we will continue to provide you with verifiable and accurate information only as appropriate and as milestones are met.”
