The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has charged the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Patrick Longe, with apprehending those responsible for the death of a party member in the state’s Ilesa-East Local Government Council Area, Ebenezer Alaro. Alaro was reportedly killed last week Friday in front of his father’s house in Ilesa by suspected hoodlums.
The APC, in a statement issued on Sunday in Osogbo by its acting chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, claimed that some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party were involved in the incident and demanded their immediate arrest.
Lawal stated that the police should arrest a PDP leader in the area who is suspected of being the mastermind of the killing.
He also revealed that thugs working for the said PDP leader in the area have been attacking, maiming, and killing APC members and supporters in the Atakumosa-East Local Government Council Area, causing a significant number of opposition party members to flee the settlements.
“Based on the (PDP leader’s threats) and outbursts in the past, it wouldn’t be an overstatement to submit that he is a dangerous human being who is not fit to be living amid the people.
“The video recording of his previous threats in a meeting that has gone viral where he threatened to use maximum force against any member of the APC that might come in his way during the last governorship election is an attestation to the fact that the PDP candidate is a violent human being,” Lawal said.
In a counter-statement, the state PDP leadership accused two APC leaders of recruiting hoodlums and gave the two men accused of bringing the hoodlums from neighboring states to disrupt the upcoming general elections 72 hours to remove them or face dire consequences.
The Director-General of the Atiku-Okowa Campaign Council in Osun State, Mr. Sunday Bisi, in the statement said, “we are disturbed to alert Nigerians and the whole world of the dangerous plot by APC leaders to scuttle elections in Osun state.
“As we countdown to the elections day on Saturday, we’re witnessing an influx of armed thugs into the state by key APC leaders.
We have become aware of the APC’s movement of thugs into Osun State in recent days and are fully aware of all the hotels in Osun East and other parts of the state where they have been lodged.
“Our credible findings detailed that the daredevil hands have been prepared to unleash violence, intimidate innocent people, and target our members for attacks to scare them away from participating in the polls.
“This quite explains the surge in violence against PDP members, especially in Osun East, where many have come under increasing scare for their lives.
In conclusion, all APC leaders are urged to withdraw the violent actors brought into the state for the election within 72 hours, failing which the PDP will provide their locations to security agencies to force them out of the state.
