Organised labour in Cross River has stated that industrial action has been planned in response to the Nigeria Labour Congress’s (NLC) proposal to impose the new minimum wage.
Monday Ogbodum, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Cross River, said this in an interview. Remember that the NLC set December 1st as the deadline for workers in states that have yet to adopt the new N70,000 minimum wage to begin industrial action.
Ogbodum stated that unless the Cross River administration implements the new N70,000 minimum salary, state workers will go on strike in full force. Ogbodum, who said that negotiations with the state administration were still underway, added that this would not prevent them from joining the strike.
He said, “Yes, we are still in talks with the government. We had a meeting on Thursday and another on Friday that finished late in the evening. “There will be another meeting today (Saturday), but that does not mean all is good.
The government had demonstrated some measure of sincerity. “Our position is that simply signing a contract or agreement today does not constitute implementation. “Until the new minimum wage is implemented, which is labour’s position, we will be joining the strike from December 1st,” Ogbodum told the crowd.
