In a groundbreaking achievement, Funke Akindele’s latest cinematic endeavor, “A Tribe Called Judah,” has raked in a staggering N1 billion in ticket sales within just 20 days of its release in cinemas. The action-packed comedy boasts an ensemble cast featuring Funke Akindele, Timini Egbuson, Jide Kene Achufusi, Uzee Usman, Tobi Makinde, and Olumide Oworu.
Distributed nationwide by Film One, the film hit theaters on December 15, 2023, surpassing the previous box office records of hits like “Sugar Rush” and “King of Boys,” amassing 231,053 admissions and an impressive N1.02 billion in gross earnings.
Box Office Triumphs of ‘A Tribe Called Judah’
Breaking down the box office numbers, the film achieved remarkable milestones:
- In just 15 days, as of December 30, it accumulated an impressive N780 million, maintaining a daily gross ranging from N55 million to N75 million during the festive season, with a notable N60 million within the first 48 hours of release.
- Within two weeks, the film had garnered N613 million, and subsequently, N854 million.
- By January 3, it further soared, grossing an impressive N997 million in ticket sales before reaching the remarkable milestone of over N1 billion.
Funke Akindele, often hailed as the box office queen, had previously tasted success with films like “Omo Ghetto: The Saga,” grossing N636 million in 2020, and “Battle on Buka Street,” reaching N668 million in 2022.
The billion-naira record, previously held by Hollywood’s “Black Panther 2” at N1.04 billion, marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian film industry.
