A fire broke out early Saturday morning at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, destroying property worth millions of naira. According to sources within the hospital, the fire impacted the Emergency and Accident section.
The fire, which began at 5 a.m. in a paediatric consultant’s office, was apparently ignited by an electrical spark. According to accounts, 16 patients were evacuated from the unit for their own safety. The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Omotayo Ogunleye, acknowledged the occurrence and stated that normal activities have resumed at the facility.
It stated: “The management of the institution wishes to statethat the fire incident thatoccurred early this morning (Saturday), as carried out by some news media, was put out without any remarkable damage to the hospital.
“Despite the fact that no human injuries were reported, management wishes to clarify that an investigation into the incident’s cause is currently ongoing. At the moment, light has been restored, and work has resumed in the region where the fire occurred.
“The management would like to thank all employees, the state fire service, and all other well-wishers for their worries and swift responses. The fire event provided no cause for concern. Everyone is recommended to continue with their routine everyday activities without fear.”
