As the first professional female golfer in Nigerian military history, Sgt. Cynthia Maurice of the Air Force has created history. The Professional Examinations, which lasted from July 14 to July 20, were held at the HSD Golf Club in Bayelsa, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Written and oral playing ability assessments comprised the exams approved by the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN). Maurice’s trip was a tribute to her tenacity, resolve, and fortitude, according to Pro Emmanuel Odoh, the Assistant Resident Head Professional at TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club, who spoke with NAN.
According to Odoh, her accomplishment has encouraged young girls to seek careers in sports and opened the path for future female golfers in the military. He pointed out that it also demonstrates the strides made in advancing diversity and gender equality within the Nigerian military.
Cynthia began playing golf just four years ago, motivated by the pros she observed on the course. She refused to accept amateur status and set her sights on becoming a professional herself. She channelled her body and mind towards her goal with unshakeable determination, making constant sacrifices to improve her abilities.
Cynthia’s journey from a beginner with a 36-handicap to a professional golfer is an amazing accomplishment. She has attained the title of bravery, resiliency, and honour with her diligence, self-control, and bravery. We honour Cynthia’s incredible journey, her tenacity, and her insistence on only accepting the best today. Pro Cynthia Maurice, congratulations!” he exclaimed.(NAN)
