Jumia Nigeria has released the top 2025 e-commerce trends that businesses and consumers should be aware of. According to the firm in a statement, e-commerce is rapidly expanding, with Forbes projecting that online retail would account for 23% of all purchases by 2027.

The company cited the emergence of rural e-commerce, increased digital payments acceptance, social commerce gaining traction, and the Artificial Intelligence, AI, and Chatbot Revolution as trends that would usher in an era of innovation, inclusion, and customer-centricity in 2025.

According to Jumia, whereas metropolitan areas have traditionally been the focus of e-commerce growth, rural markets represent a largely unexplored possibility, particularly in growing economies such as Africa.

“Over half of Nigeria’s population lives in rural areas, yet only a small proportion of these locations have access to reliable e-commerce services. Logistics is still a concern, but innovations like hyper-local distribution centres are making remote places more accessible. “By 2025, digital payment systems will be critical to e-commerce growth, providing secure, rapid, and flexible transactions.

“As a result, companies like as Jumia, through its JumiaPay platform, have strengthened their offers by collaborating with both local and worldwide payment partners such as PalmPay, Opay, EasyBuy, and CredPal to give clients with a secure payment gateway as well as a variety of payment alternatives.

“By 2025, e-commerce enterprises must use social commerce to reach younger, tech-savvy audiences in authentic ways.

“Businesses that incorporate narrative, user-generated content, and interactive shopping experiences will see improved brand affinity and revenue. Importantly, SMEs can use social commerce to access specialised consumers without making significant expenditures in standard e-commerce infrastructure.”
