Diet specialists advise that eating eggs and drinking coffee or tea at the same time can be harmful to your health, causing a variety of difficulties. Experts recommend allowing at least an hour between the two. They say that eggs and coffee have health benefits on their own, but when combined, they can cause pain and dehydration.
Dietician Priya Bansal stated, “Eggs and coffee offer health benefits and can be consumed as part of a healthy meal. Eggs are an excellent source of protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. Coffee is recognised for its high caffeine content, which has stimulant properties.”
According to Bansal, coffee contains tannins and polyphenols that can inhibit the absorption of iron and calcium, which are contained in eggs. Food experts advised against drinking coffee or tea for at least an hour after eating eggs.
Combining eggs and coffee can also cause intestinal pain. This is because both eggs and coffee can boost gastric acid production, resulting in acid reflux, heartburn, or stomach distress.
Furthermore, both eggs and coffee have diuretic characteristics, which means they can cause you to pee more frequently, potentially leading to dehydration. You should drink more water, especially if you consume these two foods together.
According to Bansal, coffee can interfere with the absorption of some medications, such as antibiotics and antacids. So drinking it at the same time as eating eggs may further impede absorption, reducing their effectiveness.
