Beginning May 27, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) will vaccinate around 288,000 girls in Kogi with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. Mr Mohammed Bala, the Technical Assistant on HPV Introduction at John Snow Incorporated (JSI), revealed the information in an interview in Lokoja on Saturday.
Bala added that NPHCDA and John Snow Incorporated (JSI) would provide technical support on May 27 as part of the HPV Vaccine Acceleration Programme Partners Initiative (HAPPI) project. He stated that the week-long campaign is aimed at girls between the ages of nine and fourteen, who are known to be prone to cervical cancer.
He classified cervical cancer as a fatal disease that takes roughly ten years to emerge and, if not found early enough for therapy, can kill the patient. He explained that “this is why the Federal Government and concerned partners are working to ensure that innocent young girls are protected against the disease at an early age.”
“As we commence the immunisation exercise in Kogi on Monday, May 27, we hope to go round the 21 local government areas with the HPV vaccine for the targeted girls.

” He urged parents and guardians, religious and community leaders, and other stakeholders to work together to educate and mobilise girls to get the HPV vaccine in order to live a healthy life.(NAN)
