Five people were found dead in the wreckage of a structure that collapsed early in the morning at 13 Wilson Mba Street in Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, while five more were taken to a nearby hospital for emergency care. An eyewitness reported that the incident happened at approximately 3:58 a.m.
Men from the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, or LASEMA, were conducting rescue operations at the scene as of the press time. Three terraces that were being built collapsed, it was found.
Search and rescue efforts got underway right away, according to Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, who spoke about the tragedy, Lagos building collapse.
“At the beginning, five adult males were found dead, two adult males were saved, and one adult male who was buried beneath the debris was pulled out by LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire Service,” he stated.
The six males were all employed at the facility. The State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, or SEHMU, has been notified regarding the remains of the three victims, and they are currently undergoing pre-hospital care on site.
Lagos State Rescue and Fire Service, Nigeria Police, and other rescue teams are among the emergency personnel on the scene of the disaster. The purpose of deploying LASEMA’S excavator was to expedite the search and rescue efforts.
