Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, claims that in an effort to secure the future of the next generation, he gave more than N200 million to education in a single week. Obi made this announcement on Saturday at the Queens School Old Girls Association’s (QSEOGA) 70th Anniversary celebration of Queens School Enugu. “I visited Onitsha on Monday, where a new university was established.
I proceeded to Borromeo College of Nursing after that. “I attended to the needs of the pupils at Anyigba in Kogi State on Tuesdays, and I also attended to the needs of the students at Almajiri School in Kaduna on Thursdays. “I’ve given more than N200 million to education this week,” he declared.
Obi stated that without education, no nation could prosper, underscoring the significance of making educational investments. He claimed that by making investments in the youth’s future, he was deterring criminality.
According to Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, a nation’s investment in health and education will determine its future. He bemoaned the condition of Queen School Enugu, claiming that it had produced many outstanding individuals but had lost its renown as a result of carelessness. “Those of you who attended this institution will be curious in how we arrived at this point. There is now nothing to celebrate about a once-celebrated school.
“I’m asking you to pool your resources so that this school can be rebuilt. “Let’s go back and fix our schools instead of building new ones,” I say to the former students of this school and other Nigerians. In order to revitalise the school, he promised to collaborate with the association.
Mrs. Ifeanyi Egbunike, the association’s national president, had previously stated that numerous issues had arisen at the school. She said that there were no new structures at the school. We are recognising Queen School because it has made great strides since I graduated in 1974. I’m commemorating 50 years of my affiliation with the school.
“Many people have been cultivated and enhanced by the school. We selected Obi because he was a visionary, goal-oriented, and passionate about education, Egbunike stated. Queen School Enugu was founded on October 4, 1954, according to Mrs. Maureen Atuonwu, the chairperson of the association’s Enugu chapter. She added that the society was trying to enhance the institution, and that alumni travelled from all over the world to celebrate its 70th anniversary.
Since the government cannot restore this school on its own, we have gathered to talk about other solutions. “To see how we might help this school reach new heights, we are collaborating with the Enugu State Government. “This school has produced many professionals, including Prof. Ngozi Okwonjo-Iweala, who excelled in their various fields of endeavour,” Atuonwu stated.
