Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has revealed the reasons behind his decision to halt the construction of a cement plant in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State during the tenure of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

According to Dangote, the project faced repeated demolitions under Amosun’s administration, forcing him to abandon the investment.

However, he credited Governor Dapo Abiodun for creating a more favorable business environment, which has now led to the revival of the project.

The revelation came from a viral video circulating on Monday, which was captured during Dangote’s recent visit to Governor Abiodun.

In the footage, Dangote stated: “The factory we are visiting now in Itori is because of His Excellency that we are coming back. It was demolished twice. We started building it, and Governor Amosun will demolish it.

“The second time we restarted again, he demolished it, including the fence. So we left. But right now we are coming back with His Excellency, my brother Dapo Abiodun.”

The cement plant, with a production capacity of six million tonnes per annum, is set to position Ogun State as the largest cement-producing hub in Nigeria.

Amosun, who served as governor from May 29, 2011, to May 29, 2019, was succeeded by Abiodun, under whose administration the project has been revived.
