Mountain Top University, MTU, Ogun State, has urged music producers to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) in music creation, citing it as a unique creative tool that represents innovation.
Professor Elijah Ayolabi, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, stated that because people are incapable of doing certain tasks, technical technologies such as AI can be employed to cover those gaps.
Ayolabi, who spoke at the MFM International Headquarters in Lagos as part of the Organ House Concert and Seminar Series, emphasised the importance of music in spiritual development and freedom.
He stated: “Artificial intelligence is similar to digital technology. There are some activities that humans used to do, but technology may readily replace them. So, when it comes to the application of artificial intelligence, you’ll notice that there are various things we can use technology to accomplish to improve music, make it more powerful, and then inject innovation and creativity into it.”
Ayolabi commented on the significance of the event: “The event is to enlighten the society to alert them to have an understanding of the import of the music composed by Dr DKO Olukoya, to have a better understanding and to know how to use it to accomplish spiritual development and liberation.”
According to him, the spiritual significance of music “may be exploited to remedy problems besetting the country. Music provides deliverance and then relaxes the spirit, body, and soul. It provides relief and comfort. When you listen to the lyrics and content, it offers comfort, joy, and hope, which keeps people living.”
Dr Bayo Oyemi, Head of the Department of Music at MTU, stated: “We strongly think that the institution should not function in isolation from the community. Because universities are research-based, if you are researching people, you must constantly interact with them to understand their needs, feelings, and desires. This is exactly what we’ve done. We have left our zone, which is the campus and citadel.
“We are focusing on the job of our chancellor. He is a very competent scientist who has branched out into music and is doing extremely well because his compositions are being researched up to the PhD level. Music and sports are two social engineering techniques that have the potential to significantly alter outcomes.
You don’t have to be a professor’s child to play football. I began my career in church, so music can readily transform; you don’t have to know anyone, which is why Mountain Top University focuses on it.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
“And, aside from the social aspect, learning music and musical instruments has been shown to improve cognition and coordination because that is what we do. So it is quite rare to see someone who is determined, who is in the art of music, veer into all of these things, forgetting about the social, the rascality that you see.
We have a very disciplined mind, and music teaches us how to be disciplined, understand, and communicate. So, if we express ourselves through art, particularly music, you will notice that things gradually begin to take shape.
