The federal government has stated that all visa applications would be submitted electronically by March 1. Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, revealed this on Monday during an appearance on ‘X Spaces’ presented by influencer Dr Segun Awosanya. Tunji-Ojo added that there is now a centralised visa approval centre that has merged the visa regime to promote uniformity, improve national security, and decrease corruption.
“The visa approval centre is also a success for this administration because we now have a consolidated visa approval centre. “This will reduce corruption, maintain national security, and combine the visa regime to ensure consistency. He stated that all visa application processes will be online by March 1st to ensure adequate vetting.
The minister highlighted the presence of a harmonised data centre at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC), which is located at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters in Sauka, Abuja. He stated, “We were able to establish one of Nigeria’s largest data centres, the 8.3-petabyte centre.
Previously, we had a problem since we inherited a Nigeria Immigration Service with no data centre, and the data of Nigerians was clearly being saved in private capacity with various contractors, which was a blatant violation of the Data Protection Act.
“We decided to find a lasting solution to that, and we started by promising Nigerians a 1.4-petabyte data centre, but we ended up delivering an 8.3-petabyte data center—one of the largest in the world.” “Nigeria cannot proliferate the issuance of its security document because it is a gross violation of due process.”
