The recent developments in the case surrounding the untimely demise of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, took an intriguing turn as the Lagos Coroner Court, situated in Ikorodu, revealed key details during a hearing. The focal point of this revelation was the ongoing toxicology tests crucial for determining the cause of Mohbad’s death, and notably, these tests are being conducted in the United States.

During Wednesday’s hearing, State Counsel Oluwaseun Akinde apprised Coroner Magistrate Adetayo Shotobi that the autopsy on Mohbad’s external body had been successfully completed. However, shedding light on the intricate details, Akinde explained that the pivotal toxicology test, involving the examination of the deceased’s internal organs for the presence of potentially harmful substances, is currently underway in the United States.

In response to inquiries from various representatives, including those of the deceased’s father, David Fadimu, TNKay Music Worldwide (the record label of the late singer), David Nawoola, and representatives from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikorodu, O.S.A. Aranmolaran, and Jennifer Nina, Akinde elaborated on the rationale behind choosing a foreign facility for the toxicology tests.

Interestingly, Akinde justified the decision by pointing to the nature of the various substances alleged to have been either injected or consumed by the deceased. He emphasized the need for the utmost transparency and credibility in the autopsy report, considering the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s passing. The decision to conduct the toxicology tests in the United States was deemed essential to prevent any potential controversy over the autopsy report when it is finally presented.

The State Counsel’s assertion prompted the coroner to question the necessity of sending samples abroad when there are toxicology laboratories in Nigeria. Akinde responded by emphasizing that the decision was driven by the global attention and significance surrounding Mohbad’s death. He underlined that, given the attention the case has garnered, it was paramount to ensure a thorough and credible investigation. Additionally, he stated that there was a concern about presenting an incomplete report, and this concern played a pivotal role in opting for a foreign facility.

Conclusion: Mohbad

This revelation sheds light on the complexities and nuances involved in investigating the circumstances leading to Mohbad’s demise. As the legal proceedings unfold, the decision to conduct crucial tests abroad underscores the gravity of the situation and the commitment to a thorough and transparent inquiry into the tragic event.
