United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has continued to ascend the global financial echelons, securing an array of esteemed international awards that underscore its unwavering commitment to the economic development of Africa. This consistent recognition further solidifies it’s standing as a pivotal player in the financial industry, demonstrating excellence in critical financial intermediation, project financing, trade facilitation, and advisory services not only within the African continent but also on the global stage, as highlighted in a recent statement released by the bank.

One of the notable achievements for this is being named Global Finance’s Best SME Bank for 2023 in Nigeria, Ghana, and Mozambique. These accolades specifically spotlight the bank’s enduring dedication to supporting small and medium-scale businesses, which are recognized as the lifeblood of any growing economy. The acknowledgment serves as a testament to it’s pivotal role in fostering economic growth through its strategic support of businesses across diverse sectors.

Moreover, this has made a significant mark in the 2023 FMDQ Gold Awards by securing wins in three key categories: Money Market Liquidity Provider, FX Market Liquidity Provider, and Dealing Member of the Year. This multifaceted recognition reflects the bank’s prowess in providing liquidity to financial markets, even in challenging economic environments. Additionally, it has been distinguished as Global Finance’s Safest Bank in Senegal for the year 2023, further attesting to its robust financial position and resilience in the face of economic uncertainties.

In response to the FMDQ Group Awards, Tony Elumelu, the Group Chairman of UBA, emphasized, “This recognition is a testament to it’s impressive capital strength and capacity to provide liquidity to African financial markets even in the face of harsh economic realities, our market knowledge, dedication to customer services and the trust of our clients.” Elumelu’s remarks highlight not only the financial strength but also the customer-centric approach that has contributed to it’s success.

Venturing onto the global stage, UBA Ghana has clinched the World Business Outlook Awards for 2023, securing titles such as Best Banking Services Provider Ghana 2023, Leading Financial Services Institutions Ghana 2023, and the prestigious Banking CEO of the Year Ghana 2023, attributed to Chris Ofikulu, the then CEO of UBA Ghana. These accolades spotlight the excellence and leadership displayed by UBA Ghana in the financial services sector.

Prior to these recent accomplishments, UBA was celebrated at The Bankers Awards 2023, where it clinched nine prestigious awards, including the highly coveted Bank of the Year Africa 2023. The recognition, organized by The Banker Magazine, a publication of the Financial Times of London, underscores UBA’s outstanding performance and impact across the African continent.

UBA’s influence extends beyond its home country, with subsidiaries operating in eight countries, including Cameroon, Chad, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, and Tanzania. This diverse footprint underscores the bank’s dominance and widespread impact across various African markets.
