The defamation trial of Donald Trump concludes in New York on Friday, highlighting the extraordinary scandal and legal challenges surrounding the presumed Republican presidential nominee. Instead of disclosing his numerous legal issues, he has made court appearances into events akin to political campaigns, alleging that every trial is a part of a Democratic establishment plot to keep him from winning a second term in office.

In a federal court in New York, writer E. Jean Carroll is suing him for defamation, requesting more than $10 million in damages. The court has the authority to only issue a civil penalty not a criminal conviction.

The jury will deliberate on the case at a later date after the parties present their closing arguments on Friday. In a brief statement on Thursday, the 77-year-old Donald, who was convicted guilty by a jury of sexually assaulting Carroll in a different federal civil lawsuit in New York, denied giving orders to anyone to hurt Carroll.

Judge Lewis Kaplan gave him three questions from his attorneys during his appearance on Thursday, and he was only allowed to respond with a yes or no to avoid straying from the subject.

He started to say, “She says something I considered false,” but Kaplan interrupted him. After his brief appearance in court, Trump declared, “This is not America.” He is accused of trying to rig the 2020 presidential election results, which he lost to Joe Biden, and other distinct criminal charges.

The Republican former president launched a barrage of assaults on Carroll earlier this week, smearing her and contesting the validity of her evidence in 37 posts using his Truth Social platform. Carroll, 80, claims that in 2019, when she first came up with her accusations of abuse, Trump disparaged her by calling her “not my type.”

Carroll, who was insulted by the 2024 presidential candidate, stated, “Previously I was known simply as a journalist, and now I’m known as a liar, a fraud, and a whack job,” in response to a question last week about how the remark affected her reputation.

Alina Habba, his attorney, attempted to have the lawsuit dismissed on Thursday, citing the fact that Carroll was the recipient of threatening communications that started on social media before to his remarks in 2019. Her appeal was turned down.

The jury was shown a deposition from October 2022 in which he mistook a photo of Carroll for his ex-wife Marla Maples, raising doubts about his claim that Carroll was not his “type.”

Carroll testified last week in court, just a few rows away from where Trump was seated, creating uncomfortable times. Carroll’s legal team expressed dissatisfaction about Trump’s audible remarks on her testimony and the possibility of juror bias.
When Trump was speaking with his legal team, the judge urged him to be quiet and then threatened to remove him from office.

After calling Carroll a “complete con job” in 2022 and sexually abusing her in a department shop dressing room in 1996, a different federal jury last year convicted Trump guilty of defaming her.

He was in court when he was promoting himself ahead of the New Hampshire primary, which he easily defeated Nikki Haley, his lone rival, to become the Republican nominee to face Biden in November, as reported by guardian.ng
