Certain nations have rigorous fashion laws that are strictly enforced since violating them might result in fines or even jail time. Even in well-known tourist locations and areas that demand vigilance, these dress codes are applicable to both residents and visitors. The government and social standards in many of these nations encourage women to dress modestly.

The following three nations are renowned for their stringent fashion laws, which frequently highlight political, religious, or cultural norms:

Saudi Arabia

There are severe dress codes in Saudi Arabia, particularly for women. Both local and foreign women are required to wear an abaya, a long black robe, when they are in public.

Although foreign women are frequently given more latitude, women are expected to cover their hair in conservative places like Riyadh and Mecca. Men are also urged to refrain from wearing shorts in public and to dress modestly. Although there are consequences for breaking these clothing codes, enforcement has loosened recently as the nation has become more modern.

Iran

Both men and women must adhere to stringent dress codes in Iran. Women are required to cover their arms and legs with loose attire and wear a hijab, or headscarf. To preserve humility, bright colours and gaudy decorations are forbidden.

Men are likewise supposed to avoid wearing shorts in public and dress modestly. Fines or incarceration may result from violations. Although these regulations are still strictly enforced, many Iranian women have silently resisted them.

North Korea

North Korea restricts Western influence by controlling dress choices. Jeans are prohibited because they represent Western culture. Clothing ought to be modest and devoid of gaudy patterns.

Additionally, the government controls hairstyles, permitting only specific authorised looks for both men and women. Items containing English writing or foreign logos are not allowed. North Korea views dress uniformity as crucial to state control, therefore violators may suffer social sanctions or punishment.
