Top 10 highest-grossing Nigerian movies of all time ahead of festive season

The Nigerian film industry, or Nollywood, has consistently produced outstanding films that rank among the highest grossing in its history.

These films convey compelling stories about modern technology and ethnic diversity. Three of these films, directed by Funke Akindele, the Lagos PDP 2023 deputy governorship candidate and noted Nollywood actress, have the top grossing Nigerian releases.

These are the top ten highest-grossing Nigerian films of all time:

A tribe named Judah (2023)

A Tribe Called Judah set a box office record of ₦1.4 billion, making it the most successful Nollywood film ever. The film was directed by Funke Akindele and Adeoluwa Owu.

Battle of Buka Street (2022)

Funke Akindele directed and produced the film Battle on Buka Street, which grossed ₦668 million in Nigeria.

Omo Ghetto: The Saga (2020)

‘The Saga’, directed by Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz, is one of the few Nigerian films to gross a staggering amount of money. Omo Ghetto set box office records with a whopping ₦636 million.

Wedding Party (2016)

The Wedding Party is a romantic comedy directed by Kemi Adetiba and co-produced by Ebonylife Films, FilmOne, Inkblot Production, and Koga Studios. The Wedding Party grossed ₦452,288,605, making it the fourth highest-grossing Nigerian film ever.

The Wedding Party 2 (2017)

The Wedding Party 2 established itself as one of Nollywood’s highest-grossing films by capitalising on the popularity of Part One. Niyi Akinmolayan directed The Wedding Party 2
This is produced by Ebonylife Films, FilmOne, Inkblot Productions, and Koga Studios, with a total box office revenue of ₦433,197,377.

Chief Daddy (2018)

Chief Daddy, a family comedy produced by EbonyLife Films and directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, grossed an impressive ₦387 million at the box office.

Queen Lateefah (2024)

Queen Lateefah, a family drama produced by Captain of the Sea Productions and WumiToriola Productions and directed by Adeoluwa Owu, became one of the highest grossing films in Nigeria, earning 351 million.

Brotherhood (2022)

Greoh Studios produced Brotherhood, and the great Loukman Ali directed it. The movie grossed a staggering ₦328 million at the box office.

King of Thieves (2022)

King of Thieves, a Yoruba epic that combines culture and cinematic genius, grossed an impressive ₦320.8 million at the box office. Tope Adebayo and Adebayo Tijani co-directed the film, which was produced by Euphoria 360 Media and Anthill Studios.

Malaika (2023)

Malaika (2023), produced by Toyin Abraham Films Production and directed by Steve Sodiya, grossed a record ₦302.1 million in Nigeria, making it one of the highest-grossing films in the country.
