To Train Plastics Producers and Recyclers, FBRA and UNIDO Collaborate

According to an Entrepreneurng report, recycling of waste in Nigeria today cannot be over-emphasized because in recent times it has created a great means of reuse of our plastic waste generated.

The idea of recycling was birthed but has been used as a good technical method of reducing plastic waste generated.

To provide plastic manufacturers and recyclers with the necessary skills to prevent plastic leakage into the environment, the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA) has teamed with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The issues associated with plastic pollution have grown in line with the rise in the usage of plastics, making it necessary to take action to assist mitigate the issue by fostering a circular economy.

Speaking at the occasion, Chukwudi Nwabuisiaku, Assistant Director, Plastics Waste Control, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), emphasized the significance of adopting circularity throughout the plastic value chain.

Nishio Nahomi, project manager for UNIDO, spoke about resource-efficient, cleaner production, and its advantages. He emphasized the significance of encouraging sustainable plastic value chains through circular economy practices for recyclers in Nigeria.

The corporate communications and public affairs lead for Nestlé Nigeria Plc, Victoria Uwadoka, urged participants to keep working toward the ultimate objective, which is circularity in the use of plastics.

Additionally, she highlighted the FBRA’s readiness to keep offering the assistance required to make the transition to a circular economy.

Conclusion

In Abuja and other northern Nigerian states, participants comprised pertinent players from across the plastic value chain. Representatives from the FBRA’s member firms, Plastic Waste Value Players, including Trash Pickers, Collectors, Aggregators, Recyclers, and Off-takers, were also present. Furthermore present were representatives from NESREA, UNIDO, and the Federal Ministry of the Environment.
