President Bola Tinubu has officially kicked off the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme, unveiling a massive rollout of over 2,000 advanced tractors alongside 9,000+ specialised implements, 50 industrial land-prep bulldozers, 12 mobile workshops, and 10 combine harvesters.
In Abuja, Tinubu reflected on his 2023 warning about food insecurity, stating, “We sounded the alarm two years ago… today, we take a monumental leap forward.” He emphasised the goal of transforming Nigeria from a net food importer into an agricultural powerhouse with affordable nutrition for all.

The initiative also features a partnership with Belarus, offering training programmes for Nigerian youth in mechanisation, machine maintenance, and equipment fabrication. Tinubu urged stakeholders to deploy the equipment effectively, warning of accountability measures to ensure proper use.
Agriculture Minister Abubakar Kyari described the initiative as Nigeria’s largest mechanisation drive to date, noting its ambitious targets: cultivating 550,000 hectares, producing over two million tonnes of staple food, and creating more than 16,000 jobs. He explained that the programme also includes GPS tracking, operator training, structured repayment models, and support from non-interest banks.
Nigeria’s mechanisation plan is clearly articulated: scale from subsistence to efficiency, transform labour-intensive farming into technology-driven agribusiness, and build food sovereignty with rural development at its core.
