Tinubu appoints Olatunji Bello as new CEO of FCCPC

Subject to Senate confirmation, President Bola Tinubu has authorised the nomination of Mr. Olatunji Bello as the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission’s (FCCPC) new Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice-Chairman.

Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, announced the appointment in a statement on Monday. Mr. Bello is a well-known journalist, administrator, and lawyer.

He graduated from the University of Lagos with a master’s degree in international law and diplomacy and served as the secretary to the Lagos State Government before. He attended the same university to study law, and in 2002 he was admitted to the Nigerian Bar.

The statement claims that Mr. Bello started his media career in 1985 with the Concord Newspapers, where he worked as the Sunday Concord Editor, Editor, Group Political Editor, and Editor, National Concord.

He was named Chairman of the Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspapers in 2001 and is the recipient of the US Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship. Additionally, he worked as the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment for a number of regimes.

In conclusion, the statement states, “The President expects that the new Chief Executive Officer of this important agency will ensure the holistic realisation of the Commission’s mandate to protect and promote the interest and welfare of Nigerian consumers, and to ensure the adoption of measures to guarantee the safety and quality of goods and services.”
