Single Revenue Platform

The federal government has announced plans to establish a single revenue generation platform for tax administration across the nation. This aim is to replace the current multiple taxation system, which is deemed counterproductive.

The initiative involves developing a standardized template of fiscal laws for adoption by sub-national governments. This template will consolidate taxation information at both the state and local levels, providing a comprehensive reference point for taxpayers.

Chairman of the presidential fiscal policy and tax reforms committee, Taiwo Oyedele, emphasized the role of the Joint Tax Board (JTB) in spearheading this initiative during a retreat for JTB staff in Abuja. He highlighted the importance of induction programs for heads of internal revenue services to ensure continuity and effectiveness in revenue administration.

Meanwhile, JTB Secretary Olusegun Adesokan underscored the need for staff readiness to adapt to the evolving tax landscape. He emphasized the organization’s advocacy for the total digitalization of tax administration to enhance efficiency.

Adesokan also stressed the importance of staff retraining and cultural transformation to align with the emerging tax environment. He emphasized the impending submission of reports by the Tax Presidential Committee and the need for staff to embrace digitalization to fulfil their mandate effectively.
