by Tolulope Akinruli

TAJBank Limited has once again emerged as the recipient of BusinessDay’s esteemed ‘Islamic Bank of the Year Award’ for the third consecutive year. This remarkable achievement was celebrated at the prestigious Banking and Financial Institutions (BAFI) awards ceremony held in Lagos. The honor was conferred upon TAJBank in recognition of its unwavering commitment to delivering world-class services, maintaining impressive financial performance, and consistently leading the charge in the nation’s financial inclusion efforts over the past three years.

The award presentation was a significant moment at the BAFI awards ceremony, with Mr. Michael Iteye, the Regional Head, Lagos, representing the bank’s management and receiving the accolade. The award was presented by prominent figures, including GM Emerging Africa, Tosin Sanni, and the Publisher of BusinessDay, Frank Aigbogun.

In their remarks, both Sanni and Aigbogun emphasized the bank’s outstanding contributions and accomplishments, acknowledging that the recognition was well-deserved. They noted that TAJBank had demonstrated a remarkable commitment to providing top-notch services and had displayed an impressive financial performance that set it apart from its competitors.

The Founder and Managing Director of TAJBank, Hamid Joda, expressed his thoughts on the highly competitive award and what it signifies for the institution. He remarked, “As the saying goes, hard work pays. So, the Islamic Bank of the Year Award by BusinessDay to our bank this year is a clear indication that the public is aware of the remarkable strides we are making to set new standards in technology-powered and value-laden services and products to our customers.”

Furthermore, Joda pointed out that the timing of the award was particularly noteworthy. It came just four months after TAJBank had achieved the status of a Tier 1 Capital leader and posted the highest profit before tax (PBT) in the non-interest banking segment of the Nigerian Exchange in the first half of 2023. He expressed gratitude to the bank’s customers, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders within the financial system, assuring them that TAJBank would continue to expand its operations to promote financial inclusion, particularly among the unbanked and under-banked individuals, particularly those in grassroots communities across the nation.

Conclusion: TAJBANK

Sherif Idi, TAJBank’s Co-Founder and Executive Director, also shared his excitement about the bank’s latest achievement. He mentioned that the coveted award had been granted to TAJBank following a rigorous competition and a transparent selection process adopted by the panel of judges. Idi reiterated the commitment of the board and management to provide innovative services and product offerings that meet and exceed customer expectations. He assured all stakeholders in the Nigerian and global non-interest banking space, especially valued customers, that TAJBank would continue to raise the bar by delivering world-class services and offering interest-free loans, thus propelling the bank to even greater heights.
