When she was eleven years old, she started her first company selling “spice ropes” door to door. She majored in arts in college and enrolled in her first computer science course as a senior.

She received an honors degree from Harvard University in 1990 after studying history and literature there. She had initially intended to pursue a Doctorate in economics and a career in academia, but she changed her mind after discovering a passion for technology.
