Simon Ekpa, a Finnish-Nigerian separatist agitator and self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, was detained in Finland together with four others for alleged terror-related offences. According to local sources, the Päijät-Häme District Court remanded Ekpa in detention on allegations of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.

In a statement issued on Thursday, November 21, the Finnish Central Criminal Police announced the arrest of five people suspected of terrorist activity. According to the police, Simon Ekpa, the main suspect, was arrested “on suspicion of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent,” while the other four were apprehended “for financing a terrorist crime.”

The police statement added: “Claims will be heard in Päijät-Häme district court today, November 21.” The inquiry focusses on “a Finnish citizen of Nigerian background, born in the 1980s, suspected of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.”

The police suspect that the individual promoted his efforts from Finland, which resulted in violence against people and authorities, as well as other crimes in South-Eastern Nigeria.

The investigation’s leader, Crime Commissioner Otto Hiltunen, revealed that “the man has carried out this activity, among other things, on his social media channels.”

The four other individuals are accused of funding the operations under investigation. “All five suspects in the crime were arrested at the beginning of the week,” the statement revealed, adding that international collaboration was essential to the preliminary inquiry.
