Over the weekend, tragedy struck in Akure, Ondo State, as Sesan Adelabu, a well-known figure in the oil and gas industry, took his own life shortly after committing a horrific act of violence against his wife, Bolu. Adelabu, who was often referred to as ‘Emirate’ within social circles, was reported to have been driven to the extreme by the alleged discovery of his wife’s infidelity.
The incident unfolded at the couple’s residence situated in the affluent area of Alagbaka, Akure. Adelabu, who owned multiple filling stations across the state, carried out the fatal act within the confines of their home, casting a shadow of shock and disbelief over the community.
Following the gruesome murder of his wife, Adelabu reportedly left the house to purchase a deadly insecticide known as sniper. Upon his return, he consumed the lethal substance, ultimately ending his own life. The tragic sequence of events left behind a scene of horror and sorrow, prompting immediate action from law enforcement authorities.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Abayomi Oladipo, wasted no time in ordering a thorough investigation into the matter. The gravity of the situation warranted urgent attention, and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) was tasked with leading the inquiry.
Confirming the distressing development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, provided chilling details of the crime scene. A police officer stationed at the residence had received a call from the couple’s child inquiring about the whereabouts of their father. Concerned by the lack of response, the officer initiated a search and made a horrifying discovery. Adelabu was found lifeless in the bathroom, while his wife’s body bore multiple machete wounds, suggesting a brutal attack.
The presence of an empty container of sniper further underscored the tragic nature of the incident. As the investigation unfolds, questions surrounding the events leading up to the tragedy linger, leaving the community grappling with shock and grief.

The bodies of the deceased couple have since been transferred to the mortuary, where forensic examinations will be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.
