Pastor Emeka Obiagwu of RCCG’s Rose of Sharon Parish in Ikeja spoke to journalists about the church’s upcoming non-denominational crusade, Light Up Ikeja, which aims to uplift and encourage Nigerians in the face of economic challenges.
Pastor Obiagwu expressed optimism for Nigeria’s future, emphasising that peace and prosperity would eventually be restored despite the current challenges. He also urged leaders across various sectors to act with integrity and compassion, prioritising service to humanity. “The challenge in our nation is that we have people whose consciences are dead. They don’t fear God nor consider others,” he said.
Pastor Obiagwu, a member of the RCCG’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, stated that the church has consistently invested in bettering the lives of its members. The interdenominational crusade, titled The Storm is Over, will take place on November 23 at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos, and will serve as a platform to pray for Nigeria, reach out to new believers, and distribute food to over 4,000 underprivileged people.
“Light Up Ikeja offers another chance for the church to spread the message of hope in Jesus Christ and compassion for all,” said Obiagwu, the pastor. “We hope this approach will be embraced by other religious and secular organisations to ease the hardship experienced by many.”
He described other CSR projects the church has conducted since 2021, such as the repair of a science lab at State Senior High School in GRA, Ikeja, financial assistance to 20 small business owners, and the provision of craftsmen with equipment worth more than N2 million. In September 2024, the parish also distributed school kits to approximately 1,000 youngsters as part of its annual Back To School event.
Pastor Obiagwu also stated that the parish is hoping for cooperation from corporate organisations and individuals to expand the impact of their CSR efforts. The fourth version of the Light Up Ikeja crusade will feature Rev.
Joseph Olaiya, founder and lead pastor of Living Faith Foundation, as the guest minister, with musical performances by Femi Okunuga, Abimbola Praiseway, and Fragrance of Life (Rose of Sharon’s resident choir).
