In a harrowing incident, a private jet, bearing approximately 10 individuals, including Very Important Personalities (VIPs), crash-landed in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Friday.
The distressing event occurred around 11 am at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, where the jet, identified by its registration number N580KR, missed the runway and veered into the nearby bush.
Promptly responding to the emergency, firefighters and rescue officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) rushed to the scene to ensure the safety of the occupants.
An airport worker, confirming the incident, stated, “Yes, it happened. It is just a minor incident. The jet skidded the runway. There is no casualty.” Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported.
Carol Adekotujo, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) spokesperson, clarified over the phone, “It was a private plane from Abuja. It landed safely but overshot the runway. There was no casualty.”
Tunji Oketunmbi, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau spokesman, mentioned that he would provide further details upon investigation.
This incident echoes a similar event in November 2023 when the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, narrowly escaped a plane crash at the same airport. The recent occurrence underscores the importance of stringent safety measures in air travel, even for private flights, emphasizing the need for continuous scrutiny and improvement in aviation protocols.
