He pointed out the obstacles hindering the smooth implementation of AFCFTA, including a weak productive sector, a shortage of essential skills, and inadequate infrastructure. Although he acknowledged that AFCFTA alone could not solve Nigeria’s economic challenges, he asserted that the country could derive significant benefits from it by supporting and enhancing its manufacturing sector.
Mr. Alake concluded by urging governments in West African countries to address the issues that hinder the successful implementation of ECOWAS protocols. He expressed regret that doing business across West African countries remained a challenging endeavor due to existing barriers and obstacles.
