Oil marketers have demanded that the Eleme road connecting to the refinery be completed as soon as possible after operations at the Port Harcourt refinery began.
Under the auspices of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria, the marketers urged the East-West road contractors to expedite the Eleme-East-West road restoration.
Recall that the Federal Government had constantly complained about the poor progress of the project, despite having paid the contractor N33 billion in advance
THE PUNCHÂ has learnt that there are currently safety issues due to the poor state of the Eleme road leading to the refinery.
Joseph Obele, PETROAN’s National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement that the road’s completion was required to prevent incidents of tankers toppling and exploding as a result of poor roads.
Obele argued that because petroleum goods are combustible, the road should be made smooth and motorable so that trucks may move them.
