The Osun State Government announced on Monday that monkeypox (Mpox) had broken out in the state’s Ilesa-West local government area.
Barr. Jola Akintola, the Commissioner for Health, confirmed the news in a statement published in the Ministry of Information bulletin.
He also asked people of Ilesa and the state not to panic, as the state is properly addressing the situation. He further stated that the State Government has activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) to combat the spread of the disease.
He stated, “We effectively managed COVID-19 and prevented a cholera outbreak. With two confirmed M-pox cases, the EOC has been activated, and stakeholders will meet every Monday to strategise on how to prevent the virus from spreading.
