One Million Trees Will be Planted in Forest Reserves in Ogun

According to an Entrepreneurng report, to protect the environment and lessen the threat of global warming, the Ogun State administration has announced plans to plant one million trees of diverse species in the state’s nine forest reserves.

Again, during the official kickoff of the planting exercise for the year 2023, the Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, stated that the one million trees would cover about 750 hectares of land in the reserves.

However, Oludotun stated that the ministry would plant roughly 250,000 trees during the second quarter of the year. He continued by saying that the ministry had started the tree nurseries earlier this year.

“At the moment, we already have 250,000 seedlings in our nurseries at our various reserves, in addition to the more than 80,000 indigenous tree seedlings we received from FRIN,” the commissioner stated.”

“In comparison to exotic trees, native trees absorb carbon more efficiently. We will also involve locals and individuals in agro-forestry, which will add another 300,000 trees, and another 400,000 trees through coppice management inside the nine reserves in Ogun state. Local stakeholders in the wood industry are also willing to join us in planting these trees.”

In conclusion, the ministry will plant 10,000 trees surrounding the Gateway International AgroCargo Airport with the help of a sister organization to ensure that the area has a pleasant atmosphere and to replace native trees that were uprooted during the airport’s development.
