French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Monday that the Olympic Games showed the world “the true face of France” and praised the “success” of Paris 2024.
“We don’t want life to return to normal,” Macron declared during a reception at the Elysee Palace. Many in France believe that the Olympic Games have outperformed expectations, boosting what had been a sombre mood in France during a political crisis.
On Monday, Macron stated that many people felt that during the Games, “the air was lighter.” France is bidding a difficult farewell to a week of sporting spectacular, with the majority of athletes, fans, and media praising the Olympics.
Macron congratulated everyone who helped make the Olympics a success, noting that law enforcement officers kept athletes and spectators safe. “Hundreds of acts were prevented,” the French president stated.
There were issues throughout the last fortnight, including an attack on French railways, but nothing that harmed the event overall, much to the relief of planners.
Macron’s snap legislative elections have resulted in deadlocked politics in France. Prime Minister Gabriel Attal’s caretaker government has been in place during the Games, but the country still lacks a new prime minister five weeks later.
