Ogun, Kano, three others pass N1.38tn 2023 budgets

Ogun, Kano, Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Ekiti states passed a combined N1.38tn 2023 budgets into law on Thursday.

The Ogun State House of Assembly passed an appropriation bill of N472.25bn into law for 2023. The assembly passed the bill as presented to it by the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, over a month ago, except with adjustments to the recurrent, capital estimates, and projected revenue in 31 different areas across 26 agencies.

In Kaduna, a 2023 budget worth N376.46bn was signed into law by the state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The state Commissioner of Planning and Budget, Umma Aboki, who made this known at a press briefing on Thursday, noted that the 2023 budget prioritised health and education sectors as 43.70 per cent was earmarked for both.

For Kano, the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, assented to a 2023 budget worth N268bn, which was N23bn higher than what he presented to the house.

The Speaker of the state house of assembly, Hamisu Chidari, announced the increase while presenting the passed budget to the governor at the council chambers of the Government House.

Also, the Nasarawa state governor, Abdullahi Sule, on Thursday, signed an N149.3bn 2023 budget into law on Thursday.

While signing the budget, Sule said the state government will commence without delay, the full implementation of the budget. He said, “With the determination to ensure continuity of government policies and programmes, the ongoing political activities will not affect the implementation of government programmes.”

For Ekiti, the state house of assembly presided over by the speaker, Olubunmi Adelugba, passed a 2023 Appropriation Bill of N113.6bn into law.

The bill was made up of N79.5bn for capital expenditure and N34.1bn for recurrent expenditure.
