Today is October 1st, a special day in Nigeria’s history because it is the day the country gained independence from Great  Britain.

Already, President Muhammadu Buhari has addressed the nation with his message of hope, speaking about good times ahead even as efforts are being made to revamp every aspect of the country, including the economy.

“We are diversifying away from reliance on oil to increased manufacturing capacity, solid minerals development, and agriculture. We are gradually strengthening the economy with a stable Naira and falling inflation rate. We are building an economy that is moving away from over reliance on oil. Consequently we have witnessed massive return to farms and seen bumper harvest, despite recurrent floods across the country.” – President Buhari

President Buhari is not the only person celebrating

Companies operating in the country have joined in on the Independence Day celebration. For example, some voice and internet service providers are giving supposed free data bonuses.

MTN Nigeria let aside its recent troubles to celebrate, offering free data bonus and interacting with customers on what makes them proud to be Nigerians.
