The Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) is inviting applications for its African Scholarship Programme 2026, targeting early-career researchers based in Africa. This fully funded opportunity allows scholars to advance their research in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities, with a focus on contemporary Africa. The programme offers access to NAI’s extensive library resources, collaboration with the institute’s researchers, and networking opportunities within the Nordic and African research communities.

Programme Details:

  • Duration: Approximately 90 days (3 months). Applicants should note that most academic institutions in the Nordic countries, including NAI, operate at reduced capacity during 15 June–15 August and 15 December–15 January; these periods are therefore unavailable for visits.

  • Benefits: The scholarship includes:
    • Return airfare (economy class).
    • Accommodation.
    • A subsistence allowance of 400 SEK (approximately 40 USD) per day.
    • An installation grant of 2,500 SEK (approximately 250 USD).
    • Access to a workspace, including a desk computer, in a shared office at the institute.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Early-career researchers based in Africa engaged in Africa-oriented research within the disciplines of Social Sciences and Humanities.
  • The research should be relevant to the core principles of the UN Agenda 2030, aligning with NAI’s five impact areas.

Application Process:

  • Deadline: March 31, 2025.
  • Applications must be submitted in English.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
