The Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) is inviting applications for its African Scholarship Programme 2026, targeting early-career researchers based in Africa. This fully funded opportunity allows scholars to advance their research in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities, with a focus on contemporary Africa. The programme offers access to NAI’s extensive library resources, collaboration with the institute’s researchers, and networking opportunities within the Nordic and African research communities.
Programme Details:

Duration: Approximately 90 days (3 months). Applicants should note that most academic institutions in the Nordic countries, including NAI, operate at reduced capacity during 15 June–15 August and 15 December–15 January; these periods are therefore unavailable for visits.
- Benefits: The scholarship includes:
- Return airfare (economy class).
- Accommodation.
- A subsistence allowance of 400 SEK (approximately 40 USD) per day.
- An installation grant of 2,500 SEK (approximately 250 USD).
- Access to a workspace, including a desk computer, in a shared office at the institute.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Early-career researchers based in Africa engaged in Africa-oriented research within the disciplines of Social Sciences and Humanities.
- The research should be relevant to the core principles of the UN Agenda 2030, aligning with NAI’s five impact areas.
