The NNPC Gas Marketing Ltd. (NGML) and NIPCO Gas Ltd. have reached an agreement with Ssonic Petroleum Ltd. to supply natural gas to the latter’s projected Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant in Lagos State.
NNPC NGML, a subsidiary of NNPC Ltd., and its Unincorporated Joint Venture (UJV) partner, NIPCO, signed a Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with Ssconic to sell gas to its factory in Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos state.
Olufemi Soneye, Spokesperson for NNPC Ltd., said in an Abuja statement on Friday that under the terms of the deal, the NGML-NIPCO UJV would supply 80 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) of natural gas per day for 20 years.
He stated that the gas supply arrangement was part of the NNPC Ltd.’s efforts to increase domestic gas consumption for the country’s industrial and economic growth.
This discovery, he stated, will encourage the use of petrol as a cleaner, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly fuel, in line with the goal of minimising global warming.
