The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is partnering with the management of the Dangote Group to address operational concerns related to the Dangote Refinery. A committee has been established to develop a workable plan within 14 days.

Dr. Bashir Jamoh, the Director General of NIMASA, assured that the agency is committed to ensuring that Dangote Ports and the refinery operations comply with the Cabotage law. He pledged to collaborate with Dangote Ports to prevent breaches of federal government regulations concerning Wet Cargo afreightment.

A working committee will be established to address the operational concerns at the refinery within the specified timeframe. Dr. Jamoh acknowledged that operationalising the Dangote Refinery might lead to a reduction in NIMASA’s revenue due to a decrease in ships importing petroleum products and, consequently, a reduction in the 3% freight levy collected by the agency. However, he emphasized that the long-term economic growth and benefits to the Nigerian population outweigh the immediate revenue impact for NIMASA.

The collaboration aims to ensure seamless business operations without obstructions or delays in shipping, considering the significant costs associated with delays in the maritime industry.
