What an election it was! The 2023 Nigerian presidential election will go down in history as one of the most controversial and contentious in the country’s history. From widespread allegations of voter suppression and intimidation to reports of ballot box snatching and violent clashes between rival political factions, the election was marred by numerous incidents of malpractice and violence.

What an electoral body it was! The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) came under intense scrutiny for its handling of the election. Critics accused the commission of failing to ensure a level playing field for all candidates, while others alleged that it had colluded with the ruling party to rig the election in their favor.

What a government it was! The incumbent government faced criticism from all quarters for its heavy-handed approach to the election. Security forces were deployed in large numbers, leading to widespread allegations of voter intimidation and harassment. The government’s failure to rein in its supporters, who were accused of orchestrating violence against opposition supporters, further eroded public confidence in the electoral process.

What a winner it was! Despite the controversy surrounding the election, a winner was declared. However, the victory was greeted with widespread skepticism, with many accusing the winner of rigging the election. The legitimacy of the new government was called into question.

What a country it is! Nigeria, a nation blessed with enormous human and natural resources, continues to struggle with the challenges of nation-building. The 2023 presidential election highlighted some of the deep-seated issues that continue to plague the country, including corruption, insecurity, and ethnic tensions.
