Nigerians Must Maintain Their Belief in Democracy – Don

Prof. Anthony Igyuve, a senior lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication at Nasarawa State University in Lafiya, has urged Nigerians to have faith in the democratic system of government since it is the finest, Entrepreneurng report.

The university professor argued that democracy was necessary for the nation when he addressed as a guest speaker at a lecture series put on by the non-governmental organization Peace for Free in Nigeria on Saturday in Kaduna.

He exhorts Nigerians to “continue to have faith in democracy,” contending that even the worst kind of democracy is preferable to the best form of military government.

He said that the youth’s active participation in voting for their favored candidates made the general elections in 2023 special, but he also said that the youth needed to give peace a chance for their preferred candidates to govern effectively. The young people were also cautioned by the university professor that a lack of peace would continue to make it hard for “those you voted for” to rule.

The founder of Peace For Free Nigeria, Chris Kalu, stated earlier in his welcome speech that the lecture series, with the theme “Sustainable Peace beyond the election,” was intended to ease the anxiety brought on by the country’s recent general elections.

Kalu pleaded with Nigerians to support the democratic process and urged politicians who had been wronged to seek redress in court rather than inciting riots.

The first of its sort in the democratic history of this nation, he said, “We are extremely delighted to warmly welcome you, our distinguished guests, to this significant assembly of the people of Kaduna state on this particular occasion for promoting peace.

Elections are a crucial component of democracy, which is a process that involves both human and technological factors and is not completely error-free.

“Like all processes, democracy needs to be allowed to mature and expand before the majority of the public can benefit from its promises and benefits.”

Recent condemnations and political uncertainty could cause unfavorable disruptions and a shortening of our democratic process if they are not controlled.

In conclusion, So that the benefits of democracy can be realized, it is our responsibility as law-abiding, forward-thinking citizens to remain loyal to and committed to the democratic process as it progresses.
