The Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers on Tuesday announced their support for Dapo Abiodun’s reelection campaign as governor of the state. The state’s National Association of Private School Owners and the union jointly announced this in support of their candidate.
Abiodun Akinola, the state chairman of the Ogun NUT, revealed this during a conversation with the governor at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta.
Following Abiodun’s efforts to reposition the education sector, according to Akinola, they chose to back his campaign for a second term.
“Your administration has raised the bar for education,” he remarked. We are not partisan, but as your employer, we wholeheartedly support you. We’ll try to support and facilitate your return.”
In addition, it was said that his home will be visited and act as his canvasser since he is a quiet achiever whose accomplishments will endure for a very long time in the OGun State region.
However, Akinola praised the state administration for improving schools, retraining teachers, revitalizing principal offices, implementing Digi-class, and eliminating levies in schools among many others.
To reinstate the unique allowance for teachers and pay back arrears on leave bonuses, the NUT leader urged for the hiring of more teachers to replace those who had retired for better enhancement.
Again, Adekunle Osibemiwo, president of the Ogun State branch of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, also spoke during the session and urged for the harmonization of school owners’ tax obligations.
Also, he urged the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology to designate a person with a handicap to lead its Special Education Department.
Abiodun replied that his administration had created more than 400 kilometers of new roads, restored more than 100 public schools, and developed 1,500 affordable housing units.
Agro-cargo airport building at Illisan is progressing, he added, as evidenced by the landing of planes. He characterized teachers as forerunners who nurture and rear morally good children for society and has proven that they are competent enough.
By instilling the proper ideals in their students, he praised them for their contribution to the state’s tranquility over the years.
“I’d like to thank you for your patience and encouragement. Without your help, we would not have been able to do as much as we have.”
In conclusion, investigation and harmonizing of the many taxing issues will be done. Also, a Special Assistant to run the Special Education Office within the Ministry of Education will be allocated.
